What to Expect in Therapy

In our first intake session, we’ll explore what brings you to therapy, clarify your goals, and begin identifying the internal and external dynamics shaping your experience.

In ongoing sessions, I’ll check in on how you are doing day-to-day, including what has been the most distressing and what feels important to talk through. I may write things down or draw diagrams so we can look at your thoughts and patterns together. Sometimes seeing them clearly makes all the difference. I’ll also explain concepts using examples or metaphors when helpful, and share relevant handouts. We’ll revisit strategies and practices to support both your short- and long-term goals.

Some clients prefer to reflect, explore their emotional history, and articulate things they haven’t said out loud before. Others like to “get to work” with skills and apply them right away. Either way, therapy is a process of discovery, and we’ll go at a pace that feels right for you. Most often, we’ll find a balance between insight and action – and I’ll help you build a healthy dose of acceptance and change.
